Neodymium Block Magnets
5 Uses for Block Magnets
Block magnets are one of the most popular and versatile magnets we sell at ALB Magnets.
When compared to a disc magnet of the same thickness, they have more surface area resulting in a stronger magnetic pull—the pull force of our block magnets ranges from 0.6 pounds to roughly 1,082 pounds! We also sell a variety of countersunk blocks with holes that allow you to use screws, nails, or bolts to attach the magnet to a different material.
Use a magnetic rack to display and store anything from knives and other metal kitchen utensils, spices, keys, bathroom supplies, tools in your garage or shed, certain toys, and even junk drawer items.
A magnetic rack could be the solution to many of your organizational problems around the house.
Latches for Cabinets
We put together an easy DIY for making your own magnetic latches for the cabinets in your home.
Whether it’s in the kitchen, bathroom, or workshop, this project prevents cabinet doors from opening on their own and provides resistance if there are any small children in your home, keeping them out of places that may house dangerous chemicals or tools.
It only takes five materials (a drill, screwdriver, pencil, screws, and 1"x1/2"x1/8" Neodymium countersunk block magnet ) to make a world of difference in your home!
Demonstration & Fun
Diametric Levitation Demonstration
Learn how to make pyrolytic graphite levitate with neodymium magnets with the third demonstration in this post! This simple demonstration only uses four 1”x1”x1/2” block magnets and pyrolytic graphite, both available from ALBMagnets.
All you have to do is arrange the four diametric block magnets according to the video and place a thin sheet of the graphite over them.
The smaller the piece of graphite, the higher it will float over the magnets.
Levitating Model Train Track
Build your own Maglev-inspired train and track with this instructional blog! While this demonstration doesn’t work quite like the technology used in Maglev trains, this uses the repelling magnetic fields of permanent block magnets, it gives you an understanding of the concept behind them.
Geocaching is a fun outdoor activity for both children and adults alike.
You can use 4mmx2mmx1mm block magnets to hide your smaller caches throughout various places such as the back of a stop sign or mental bench by using a metal container, with a magnet attached.
If your container is plastic, you can glue the magnet to it before securing it on a metal hiding spot.
Be sure to pick a block magnet that has a pull force to support the weight of your cache!

Buy block magnets neodymium
Block magnets neodymium with adhesive forces of 10g - 200kg, in many different sizes. Mini magnets, death magnets & more. Discover them now!
Block magnets: Super magnets par excellence, Small, but super-strong.
That could not be more true for any other magnet, because two of our strongest magnets are neodymium block magnets: The " death magnet " with an adhesive force of 100 kg and the " Monolith " which can hold a weight of 200 kg.
But we also carry block magnets that are extremely inconspicuous thanks to their small size of only a few millimeters.
At the same time, even our "smallest ones" don't have to hide with adhesive forces starting at 140 g and an appealing silver (nickel-plated) or gold-colored (gold-plated) surface.
The magnetization direction of block magnets
Most block magnets have the north and south pole on the two largest surfaces.
The few exceptions that are magnetized in a longitudinal direction are specifically marked.
Versatile applications: Hobby & DIY, e.g.; for hanging up tools; Craftsmen use & carpentry, e.g, for magnetic furniture or discreet closures; Workshop & model making; Creative decorations; Medicine
Find inspirations under our applications with block magnets.
We are sure you will come up with many more ways to use them.
Most neodymium block magnets can be used at temperatures of up to 80 °C, a few types even up to 150 °C (specifically marked).
Safety first: You need to be careful when handling large blocks with super adhesive forces of up to 200 kg to avoid serious injury.

Ceramic Block Magnets - Ceramic Magnets
Magnet Shop stocks square & rectangular ceramic block magnets in sizes & grades for all applications.
Ceramic Block Magnets
Buy ceramic block magnets on-line today! We carry a large inventory of ceramic block magnets, available in a wide range of sizes and shapes, not all of which are shown on this website.
Ceramic magnets (also known as "Ferrite" magnets) are part of the permanent magnet family and are the lowest cost, hard magnets available today.
Composed of iron oxide & barium or strontium carbonate, ceramic block magnets exhibit relatively good holding strength, making them ideal for many consumer, commercial and technical applications.
Commonly used in arts and crafts projects, hobbies, toys, games, science projects, displays, latches, and much more.
We can custom cut or machine these to your exact specifications using our in-house manufacturing facilities and experienced team of engineers.
Just let us know what you are looking for by sending us a request for a quote or contact us today, and we'll work with you to determine the most economical solution for your project.
$150.00 total minimum order (excluding shipping & tax if applicable) - Items can be combined to reach the minimum amount.
These values are calculated under the assumption that the magnet will be attached to a flat, ground 1/2" thick mild steel plate.
coatings, rust, rough surfaces, and certain environmental conditions can significantly reduce the pull force.
Please be sure to test the actual pull in your actual application.
For critical applications, it is suggested that the pull be de-rated by a factor of 2 or more, depending on the severity of a potential failure.
Ceramic ferrite block magnets for use in manufacturing, craft, and hobby applications. Choose from many sizes in stock.
1 = Grade 1 ceramic 5 = Grade 5 ceramic 8 = Grade 8 ceramic (strongest ceramic material available) H0 = .197” hole H1 = has a .1875” hole through the middle 2H = has 2 holes 3/16” dia., 1” center to center.
Ferrite block magnets / Ferrite slab magnets
Ceramic ferrite block magnets are usually specified by their three dimensions such that the first two dimensions specify the size of each magnet pole face while the final dimension indicates the pole to pole distance (the ferrite magnet is therefore magnetized in the direction of the last dimension).
Ferrite Rectangular Magnets or Ferrite Square Magnets
Ferrite block magnets are also known as ferrite rectangular magnets or ferrite square magnets, ferrite slab magnets, and ferrite cube magnets.
Rectangle, square, slab or cube shapes would all exist under the term ferrite block magnets.
Anisotropic ferrite magnets have their direction of magnetization locked into the structure of the ferrite magnet and so cannot be re-magnetized into a different direction (other than swapping the North and South poles around).
Isotropic ferrites (which are weaker in magnetic output performance) can be magnetized in almost any direction provided the magnetizing coil fixture is capable of providing the correct pattern with enough magnetizing strength.
Black magnets that are very tall compared to their [ole face dimensions are sometimes also known as ferrite bar magnets - we have given these magnets their own section.
Ferrite Magnets with Deep Magnetic Fields
Although ferrite magnets are not as powerful as Samarium Cobalt and Neodymium (size for size) - they can be made as large blocks which are (relatively speaking) potentially safer to handle (care should always be taken when handling magnets, especially the larger and more powerful magnets).
The larger ferrite slabs (larger rectangular shaped magnets) can provide deep magnetic fields (making them extremely popular in attraction applications such as overland magnets, magnetic separators, magnetic sweepers, etc).
This is because they have large pole face areas.
The larger the pole face area, the better should be the magnetic output at distance away from the magnet (as a generalized rule).
Stacking the ferrite block magnets together to increase magnet height will also give more magnetic output but there is a height for any magnet where increasing height starts to give less and less increase in performance (as the performance levels off) at which point a larger pole face area may be required (i.e. a bigger magnet or a new design may be necessary).
If you cannot find the right size ferrite block magnet, the right shape, or the right grade of ferrite, just let us know what you are looking for (and how many you require) and we can give you a quotation.
