At ALB magnets, you get the best magnet and magnetic assembly design and engineering assistance in the marketplace.

This countersunk hole provides a space for a screw to be put through the assembly and have the tapered head of the screw fit flush with the magnet in the assembly, allowing for a variety of mounting options.

ALB magnets supplies counter sink neodymium cup magnet assemblies available in a variety of stock dimensions.

If we do not have the size you are looking for listed below, we can also supply custom counter sink assemblies to meet your exact specifications.

Rare Earth Neodymium Magnets From ALB magnets

Neodymium NdFeB magnets are, size for size, the strongest type of any magnet material that is commercially available (they are stronger than SmCo, Alnico and Ferrite).

Rare Earth Neodymium NdFeB

Neodymium Magnets - Overview

Neodymium NdFeB magnets are often the ideal first choice for many applications because they offer a maximum performance from the smallest magnet volume.

Neodymium NdFeB should always be coated to guard against the risk of corrosion – NiCuNi, Zinc, NiCuEpoxy and Gold are popular finishes.

• Maximum performance from smallest size.

• Can be used in extremely cold conditions (e.g.in liquid nitrogen).

• Standard Neodymium NdFeB is rated to +80 degrees C (176F) maximum.

Can be rated to +100 (212F), +120 (248F), +150 (302F), +180 (356F), +200 (392F) and +220/230 degrees C (428/446F) with higher Hci versions.

• High coercivity (Hci) to resist demagnetisation.

• NxxT and L-NxxT alloys have better corrosion resistance than standard NdFeB but still needs coating.

• Requires a protective coating to prevent the iron in the alloy from corroding (rusting).

• NxxT and L-NxxT alloys are much more expensive and will still show signs of corrosion.

• Higher temperature versions contain more Dy element increasing their cost.

• Nd and Dy prices affect the production cost.

• Above 150-180 deg C (302-356F), SmCo may be better.

Typical Applications for Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets

About: We are a supplier of neodymium, rare earth magnets. We also love to conduct experiments with our ...

Step 5: Mounting Magnet

In all the other methods, we used a magnet-to-magnet setup.

Here we use a strong, sturdy mounting magnet with a steel washer.

For this method, we designed and 3D printed a small bracket to a hold a 5/8" mounting magnet, MMS-A-A .

We secured the magnet to the bracket and a small #4-40 machine screw and nut.

We secured the magnet-bracket assembly to the cabinet with two #4 wood screws.

Then, we attached a steel washer, like our NSW82 (not a magnet) to the backside of the door.

This combination is the strongest of our examples here.

It’s much stronger than the other setups.

It’s really too strong for our cabinet doors that don't have handles.

It required over 5 lb of force to open, which is more like opening a refrigerator door than a cabinet.

This setup is also more tolerant of mis-alignment.

Unlike a magnet-to-magnet setup, a magnet sticking to a steel part will happily stick just as well if slightly offset.

You could even use a larger steel “strike plate” to make a bigger target.

Neodymium iron boron (NdFeB), or “neo” magnets offer the highest energy product of any material today and are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes and grades.

About Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets

Neo magnets can be found in a variety of applications including high performance motors , brushless DC motors, magnetic separation, magnetic resonance imaging, sensors, switches and loudspeakers.

Magnetic properties will differ depending upon alignment direction during compaction and upon size and shape.

Download individual spec sheets from the table below, or get the full neo catalog for specific grades and their magnetic properties, including the trade-off in Br (and energy product) for HcJ (intrinsic coercivity, resistance to demagnetization).

For GBD Neo Grades, see below.

Maximum Use Temperature and Corrosion

Determining whether or not to use neo magnets instead of our RECOMA® SmCo magnets, for example, is a function of the maximum temperature of the application, required magnetic output at typical use temperature and total cost of the system.

Neo magnets have some limitations due to their corrosive behavior.

In humid applications, a protective coating is highly recommended.

Coatings which have been used successfully include epoxy coating, nickel plating and combinations of these coatings.

ALB also has the capability to apply Parylene coating to neo magnets.

Effectiveness of coating is dependent upon the quality of the base material.

ALB has evaluated multiple manufacturers for corrosion resistance of the base material and only supplies licensed, highly corrosion-resistant materials produced under tight control.
